Sport forms an important part of the Rosendale curriculum.

Research evidence strongly suggests that Physical Education and School Sports (PESS) can support the development of social skills, social behaviours, self-esteem, positive attitudes to school and even academic and cognitive development.  Children who participate in sport at school are more likely to develop healthy active lifestyles later in life.

In order to maximise the benefits of School Sports it needs to be managed by committed, trained teachers and coaches.  Rosendale works with a partner organisation, Teachsport, who provide daily sports coaching for pupils from Year 1 upwards and training sessions for all staff who teach PESS.

Teachsport coaches ensure that all pupils succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities.  Pupils develop knowledge, skills and tactical awareness in a range of sports including hockey, tennis, cricket and football and participate in fitness, dance and swimming.

There are a wide range of opportunities for pupils to take part in sports and games outside of the school day. Our extended hours activity programme includes a number of sports activities including football, dodgeball, cricket and multi-sports.

And whilst we ensure that our curriculum is ambitious for all pupils, we also identify and support excellence through our Excellence Bursary scheme which we also run with Teachsport.  A former Rosendale pupil is the current Commonwealth Silver Medallist in the cycling individual time trial and another former pupil made his senior first team debut for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League this season.
